Hurricanes and other rain storms, popular during the summer months, can bring excessive amounts of rainfall over a short period of time, causing flooding throughout the state.
The state is also prone to nor 'easters and winter snow storms. In the 2004–2005 Winter Season, Massachusetts broke a 113-year-old record for the most snowfall in one month.
