Did you know...
Flooding is Maine’s number one disaster.
Maine
Serious flooding in Maine, which occurs in all months of the year, can be caused by heavy rains and hurricanes, dam failure, ice jams, and even spring melting and run-off situations. Hurricanes usually diminish in intensity before they reach the state; however, the effects of torrential rain and high winds have proven to be severe.
Maine's winter storms, including both snow and ice storms, have been known to reach disaster proportions, causing power outages that have lasted up to 14 days in remote areas of the state.
