Disaster Dudes
A 1993 FEMA and American Red Cross product, ‘The Adventures of the Disaster Dudes’ is a 14-minute live action video starring three 4th grade students that outline disaster preparedness strategies.
The Adventures of the Disaster Dudes is a staple part of the STEP required base lesson. Instructors have found this lesson extremely easy to teach because of the talking points provided in the Instructor Guide that go along with the video.
The video shows how kids can prepare for a disaster by being aware of dangers in their area, building an emergency supply kit, and talking with their families to plan for different scenarios. Stopping points in the video allow teachers to focus the class on important discussion topics.
The Student Tools for Emergency Planning (STEP) Program also contains lesson plans for math, science, language arts, and performing arts, as well as multiple take-home components.
